As the below report from the Westminster Gazette of 5 December 1895 shows, the temptation to address the court at length can be irresistible even to the very experienced practitioner:

Much has changed since 1895 but not, it seems, the unique tone of a withering judicial rebuke to counsel!

To date, Mr Bushe QC remains the only reported member of the Irish bar to have been successfully sued for criminal conversation after eloping with a married woman. Read all about it here.
