Another story to add to the annals of the Irish Bar and the 1798 Rebellion.
From the Irish Weekly and Ulster Examiner, 3 April 1920, a ballad-worthy account of an Irish barrister who, during the dark days following the 1798 Rebellion, puts family loyalty above his professional career to mount a successful defence on behalf of his rebel brother:
A favourite anecdote of Daniel O’Connell, a member of the Irish Bar at the same time as the barrister involved, the story appears almost verbatim in Daunt’s ‘Personal Recollections of Daniel O’Connell’ (1848), which may have been its original source.
